I’m still in the midst of converting Blair’s old candle-pouring room into what I guess you’d call a hobby room. A majority of it has tables and shelving for my art supplies, and then he has a section for his Magic the Gathering/Star Wars whatever it’s called games and card storage. I’ll get into it more once I finish so that there are before & afters. In the meantime, I’ve had some of my best friends over (who can ignore the in-process chaos) to do a little crafting. The first get together was a bust in the sense of finished art. We tried making prints using gel blocks, but we just couldn’t the magazine images to transfer. So, for last night, I chose something that we surely couldn’t get wrong.

I’ve always been obsessed with the hand-painted notebooks, greeting cards, etc. that I used to carry at Lovely Somethings by Iowa based, Moglea. So when I came across the above story from @sharece.studios via Martha Stewart, the answer for Craft Night project seemed very clear.

I hopped over to Amazon and instantly bought everything we needed, and probably more.

What I consider NECESSITIES:
* Squeegees – recommend silicone
* Acrylic Paint
* Larger Format Paper – didn’t love the texture of what I bought. I do recommend over 100LB stock, and a smoother finish is prob best. Linked the one I plan to try next time.
* Paper Towels – I didn’t use any water to clean my squeezes and actually barely got any paint on me, did use a few paper towels, so the select-a-size rolls are perfect for this.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND:
* Mini Squeeze Bottles – you can also put blobs from the paint bottles, but I felt like I had more control with these, plus useful if you’re making custom colors.

BONUS GOODS: Recommend getting some popsicle sticks to smear paint, plus stir custom colors; paint brushes if you want to add detail; and I plan to use artist tape next time to isolate the smears within geometric shapes (LS TIP: pull off a long piece of tape and stick it to your clothes, then tear off the length you want and put it on your paper, and rub it down. Since you put it on your clothes first, it won’t be quite as sticky and should remove cleanly without tearing your paper). There’s a few other doodads on my storefront.

I was inspired by the almost checkerboard duotone yellows below. You can see on the second pic, that I did a bunch of tiny fuchsia and coral dots, then pulled them, third pic. I should have done more dots to keep that effect going longer.

To get the “cleanest” or rather “purest” swipes, you should wipe your squeegee between passes. Though do experiment using the left over paint on your squeegee, it may get murky, but that can be cool, too.

And then we took it in a different direction… Joy went plaid crazy (below left) and I was totally inspired. I kept the same color palette all night.

Seriously, it was a fun night! Sure there may have been some cocktails, gossip, and Netflix recommendations, but what else are a bunch of mid-forties girls supposed to do?!

See ya next week!

I’m really not trying to sell you anything, I just like that having a storefront enables me to share specific project lists. But per them, I always have to add: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
