This year has definitely been one of growth, lots of growth! I'm excited to share more clients with you and the process of the work I do for and with them. Drumroll...my love for Liz's cheese plates (her name is Liz also, I'm not speaking in 3rd person), will soon be manifesting itself in a new brand design. She did her original logo herself (went to design school, too), but is looking to switch things up and has her hands full with, well, cheese. I can’t contain my excitement! I am so lucky to have such incredible people in my life. When I heard that my friend @silas_hite was planning on doing Q&As for a film he scored 🎶 at my fave little theatre: @nightlightakron, lightbulbs started flying above my head. I wanted to show support for him (recently moved from LA) and his beautiful work; and my love for the amazing work that Jenn has been doing - let’s get that second screen!!!; and let’s be honest, I love to throw a party! So I messaged my go to, @waxedcrescent so that we can dream up a new cheese wonderland, and reached out to our new friends @riverrootsbarrelco, and voila, a little shindig plan was hatched. And as only Akron does, we sold out for the screening with my pre-party within a couple of minutes this past weekend, before it even got released to the public, just now. Ahhhh, all I can think about these days are blooms. My seedlings are starting to emerge, in the basement, safe from this crazy Ohio weather. And outside our forsythia is a giant cloud of golden yellow, and the landscaping fabric has been laid for my new cutting garden. Inside, I’ve been tackling COVID for the first time, and super excited to get back to work. As I dipped my toes into starting my blog (FINALLY) last night, I did a quick reflection on recent work. Working with @designing_elizabeth on her visions for @broadlawncreative was definitely a highlight! This brand evolved from our original @broadlawnfarm branding, but exudes the magic that is Beth and everything she touches. It made me ecstatic noticing the snowdrops on our hillside this week. I’m itching to sink my fingers into dirt - outside dirt that is (my poor sunroom has had dirt all over its slate floors off and on all winter). If I put it here maybe I’ll make it happen: I want to make a little cutting garden this year. I spend a lot on fresh flowers and I’ve bought seeds in years past but never follow through. This weekend I’m setting up the seed trays, plus I saw a thing on Reels, that now is a good time to put landscape fabric out where you want to start a garden and then pull it up when you’re ready to till the soil in May. I never know where projects will take me, from meeting with clients in Singapore, to India, to across the US (often here in Ohio), but my most recently finished work is for a NEW school in Brooklyn, New York! Working with The Learning Agenda and MS428’s wonderful new principal, Cybi Ip, I designed both a BRAND and a SLOGAN for this progressive new venture. The global influence was most important as all of their students are bilingual and will be taught accordingly, in either Chinese-English or Spanish-English. As it’s a new school, we needed to create a strong brand echoing familiarity through collegiate traditions/feels, in the shield and the main type; but also appealing to modern sensibilities through the supporting type and clean shapes in the design itself. We are honored to have given such a worthy endeavor it’s visual starting point and can’t wait to see how it explores all of its new paths. 1: Full brand + slogan, 2: Two slides, 3: One-pager, 4: Seal 💭 This project was funded by @newschoolsvf.
