What a Sunday Fun Day! I was honored to tag along on Cookbook Club’s outing to @birdietowncle in Lakewood yesterday. We had an EXCELLENT time and I can’t wait to go back. Highly suggest it for double dates (4 people can play per card). Grab a cocktail, play 9 (or 18) maybe with more cocktails, and have a wonderful dinner.
As a big putt putt fan, I wasn’t sure how exciting the holes would be without windmills and Humpty Dumpty, but they were super creative and of course aesthetically pleasing. A lot were modeled off of old school games like Skeeball and Plinko and designed around the existing architecture. I can’t wait to go with B so I can beat him (if you’ve followed for a while you know I search out putt putt on vacations). BTW, last pic is after my hole in one!!!!!
Oh yeah, and the food was 💯. @jmvedaa’s incredible coconut calamari from Salt+, perfectly fried pickles, and roasted carrots with chili crisp and yogurt got us started, then most of us had the short rib grilled cheese, or burger, or mushroom strudel, all wonderful!
You know a place is awesome when you’re texting other people that you aren’t with to make future plans to go there so 1. You can come back and 2. You can show them a great time! 👏 ⛳️ Only note is to carpool as is street parking. Thanks Cookbook Club ladies and @birdietowncle for an awesome outing.
What happens when wildfires and floods affect a brilliant product idea and its launch? Well…my lifelong friend, Erin Eisinger, developed these incredible TIME CARDS to help people plan days with room for growth, play, rest, and surprise, in collaboration with another former Akronite, Sara Kinnamon Fritsch, and her gorgeous company, @studiotigress. And let’s just say Mother Nature was NOT on their side.
🗓️ TIME CARDS are the ultimate conversation starter for you and your family—
💡 What’s your absolute best holiday memory?
💫 What was so special about it?
🪄 How can you recreate some of that magic for that holiday this year?
🔮 How will you make it special or different this time?”
Man, there are some wonderful things to plan for and reflect on…and their beauty can be experienced all year long. There are no dates, so start the conversations now and plan out a month, a season, the rest of the year, or keep going…
TIME CARDS are an incredible gift for yourself, and of course others. They are especially great to keep on hand for hostess gifts.
Head to the link in bio to read my blog about the cards, including a video of Erin describing her challenges, and a link to purchase.
Kudos to @eeeisinger and the @fourbynorth team for the idea, design, and execution;👏 to @mehmetic for the artwork; and 🎉 to @portlandsunshine and @studiotigress for offering always-beautiful, never boring products.
I first met Cassie when she shopped at Lovely Somethings—she’s a true delight! In the years since, Cassie has joined our favorite team, the @cavs, as their Senior Graphic Designer. I’m constantly in awe of the physical scope of her projects and her talent ✨ In this second installment of 5 Questions, @cassie_jo33 shares some really cool accounts to follow, a very legit pet peeve, and you’ll learn about her fave designs 🔗 Link in bio.
🚨 Life Update 🚨
Like so many Americans, I find myself in need of a FULL-TIME JOB due to federal funding cuts. While I’ve loved consulting (and will still take on projects!), this upheaval has me looking for something steady.
〰️ My background is rooted in design, but I’m most interested in roles such as: CREATIVE DIRECTOR, MARKETING/COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, SALES —though I’m totally open to new opportunities!
💡 Know of a job? A great connection? I’d love to chat! Every share, referral, and lead helps more than you know.
〰️ I put everything—resumes, portfolio, relocation info, and more—in one spot: lizscottdesigns.com/opentowork (link in bio)
Being self employed isn’t for the faint of heart, a couple of the things I’m looking forward to with a FULL-TIME POSITION:
✔️ A steady income for the first time in 8 years ✔️ Paid time off for the first time in 20 years ✔️ Helping another company THRIVE
These are uncertain times, but I’m staying hopeful and excited for what’s next. Thank you for your support! 💗

45 for me two days ago, valentines yesterday, and in two days Blair is 40, and almost done with everyday akron, phew! It goes from Feb 1 to March 1 in a FLASH for us.
It’s a long one, SHOCKING! What’s the old story about the shoemaker’s kids? Well as a designer/marketer, I let last year pass without mention of this, beyond putting a post-it note on one of my computer monitors: 20 YRS OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP! All my life I’ve been rooting for and been the little guy…
Graduating amid the .com bubble burst, and applying for a million ENTRY-level graphic design jobs, that somehow all required 1-3 years experience, I didn’t know what I was going to do, as all I wanted to do was leave Akron. It was different then, I was different then.
Gratefully though, I had my job at @dondrummstudios, where I went from sales girl, to Don creating the first and only graphic design Internship for me, to their Graphic Designer/Art Director/Marketing Director over the the next 22 years.
But ideas never stop in this wild brain of mine, and thankfully I had two wonderful friends that were feeling drawn to do something more, too, and the “let’s do it” business ball started rolling.
I founded or co-founded: 〰️ 2004 - 2020 : Immix Studio [graphic design + IT (closed to start LSD)] 〰️ 2004 - 2011 : Pat’s Computer Rescue and PCR Business Systems (at home + commercial computer support (sold my shares)] 〰️ 2004 - 2006 : Rubber City Clothing Co. [Akron-centric apparel (sold the company, and it’s changed hands many times since, still kicking!)] 〰️ 2009 - 2022 : Lovely Somethings and Troop Lovely Somethings [invitations, the storefront, then subscription boxes during the pandemic (the shop 2014-2019)] 〰️ 2017 - 2022 : Akron Foodie (turned it over to my wonderful friend @akronmomandkids who is still creating with it today); 〰️2017 - 2022 : Akron Candle Company (we gave this to the wonderful Kaley of @urbnbuzz); and now, 〰️ 2021 - present : Liz Scott Designs

COUNTDOWN: 46 days until spring. Punxsutawney Phil and the calendar seem to agree, spring is spring. This melt made me hopeful that it would be sooner, but 46 days sounds way better than 6 weeks, right?! I think I need to recreate this look from our front steps circa 2021, this year. Maybe I will FINALLY do that lasagna layering of bulbs for our big pots, if I can get bulbs in before it freezes again, if said dirts in the pots is actually thawed, if it’s not too late for that?! To google I go…

TODAY WAS A DAY! A mess of a day!
In a world of so much uncertainty, I keep reminding myself of the words I read from Kamala Harris after the election:
“There is an old adage: Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars. I know many young people feel like we are entering a dark time. For the benefit of us all, I hope that is not the case. But, America, if it is: Let us fill the sky with the light if a billion brilliant stars.”
Since I read that, I felt compelled to try and paint that sky. Finally, on Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. day, I sat down and picked up my oils. Oils are not a quick process, so for a few nights, I added layers, and sat and thought, trying to shed the days news from myself.
If only it were that easy. While I have a strike against me, as I am a woman, I am not marginalized to the extent that many I know and love are. My husband is Black, my family is Black. Many of family of friends represent the LGBTQIA+ community, of which we whole-heartedly support, many of my education-based clients had to stop working today, ICE was surrounding the elementary school at the end of the block from where we used to live in North Hill, and I’m afraid for all! I don’t know what to do. Keep trying to be a star...
This is my tiny attempt to do a tiny thing. I will be donating ALL proceeds from the sales of this sticker to:
* Southern Poverty Law Center ($1) +
* Marsha P. Johnson Institute ($1) +
* International Institute of Akron ($1) +
* The Nightlight ($1) +
* Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center ($1)
I implore you to learn more about these groups, and spread the word.

Well, Blair and I have decided to start traveling for the holidays, and leaning into what makes us happiest. Not sure when I’ll be all-out decorating again, but I did so enjoy the quiet nights of decorating our 10 trees this year, 11 if you count the 20’ tall one outside! Here are a few of them, including my new floral tree in our living room, a new dog tree in the guest room, a new DIY craft tree in the basement, alongside some of our classics, like the disco/rock tree, the skinny delft tree, our @akronchildrens grinch tree, and it always fun adding the year’s adventure ornaments to the travel tree.
And since I went on vacation right after the holidays, I’m still dismantling. And if it ever thaws again maybe our driveway will return to its non-candy cane ways 🤞

Truer words. Last year, next year - make it what you want. I hope for joy and peace for all of you in 2025 ✨

We hope you had a VERY Merry Christmas today and start to Hanukkah! Blair chose the photo for our cards this year, so I surprised him with it enlarged/framed, and we took great joy in the little touches, like the brass plaque, and the personal message in the envelope attached to the back. Thank you, @framebridge for making not one but two of my gifts special this year, and to @minted for coming through with the perfect design so that I could focus on my clients’ designs.
Putting it out into the universe…NEXT YEAR I’m hosting a Gingerbread House Decorating Party, a la @christopherspitzmiller and @jordanferney.
🍬🍭 🍬 Who wants to come? Let me know if I should add you to the list…
Cheers to friends, felt, and snacks. We had a great time @sabertooth_public_art’s studio inside @bounce_hub tonight making fun felt ornaments, downing some wine and catching up. Big thanks to @hillaryoravec for buying this night at the @summitcountycasa silent auction., and to the wonderful ladies of Sabertooth and their amazing #paintcanchristmastree! And as you’re doing your end of year giving, add CASA to the top of your list.
‘Tis the Season to be RIDICULOUS 🌟Yet another product of @joy_tcb and I swapping IG reels. We got crafty a couple of weeks ago and made these wacky hats in anticipation of @vswaggz and @derseders annual Holiday Party ❄️ Joy got most of the supplies from @dollartree. The trees already had tinsel on them - prob to be used as a centerpiece or on the mantel but we clearly had other ideas. We beefed them up with more tinsel and then hot glued bits and bobs, and of course had to have tree toppers: from ribbon, to poinsettias, to a disco ball (stolen from my music tree), to my fave gold star that she got @target. The inspiration reel that we saw had one of the trees covered in fake hair, a la beehive. I was tempted but fell down a rabbit hole on Amazon and got overwhelmed in the world of extensions. Fast forward to last night, we went over to Joys to put them on, hers was secure enough with two mini butterfly clips. Mine…well, had the same two clips a million Bobby pins and still wasn’t stable (don’t read anything into that, 😉) so Joy had the idea to add the ribbon - perfect. And because they were so tall we could fit into the car and walked the couple of blocks to the party. A few brave souls wore the other two a couple of moments each throughout the party. Go be…RIDICULOUS! God, it made it all so much fun!!!!
PS - My shirt (and the green velvet pants you don’t see) are rented from @nuuly, let me know if you want a $30 off discount code (I get $10 credit) - it’s truly made holiday party looks a breeze! And coat is from our friends @benchpressed in Minnesota - find all sorts of amazingness on their website for the holidays!
Tis the Season…of Burgundy. I feel like I talk about this a lot, the pull towards a certain color. And right now, it’s this hue that I used to think of tragically late 80s/90s decor with hunter green, and shiny brass. Welp, now our basement is burgundy, and we have a hunter guest room, and plenty of brass throughout, though not shiny. ❓Tell me below, what color are you currently crushing on?
Turkey Day Recap 🦃 We moved things down to our still-in-process basement craft/game room. It was the perfect space to create one giant table using folding tables, lots of tablecloths and the inspiration for it all, @johnderiancompany Asparagus Candles for @target. Blair’s smoked turkey was incredible, we laughed, we ate, and Michelle figured out the corkscrew that we brought back from Paris. I had more fun leading up to it too, including making the ceramic place cards, thanks @instagram for the tutorial! One downside, our house is technically 6 floors high, so from the kitchen to the basement, you have to go down two flights, there was LOTS of carrying, and after dancing my ass of at Thursdays the night before, my legs were def not thrilled with me. So every time I heard “we need more salt”, etc. the little people inside my legs that were trying to keep me upright were screaming… but it was all worth it, for the night before AND Thanksgiving. I’m so very grateful for the lives that Blair and I have built together and for all of our family and friends 💗 Thank you, friends!
What a night! To be clear, what a 2 hours! Dancing like it was 20 years ago, but husband picked us up at 10, very not like 20 years ago. Such an amazing night with these people that I am insanely grateful for, and the same thrill of 20 years ago, running into others that you love, hey @meltobes5 😘 Happy Thanksgiving, all 🦃 @mrzubsdeli
‘Tis the Season…for mail! After addressing and stamping thousands upon thousands of wedding invitations in my Lovely Somethings era, I discovered a handy little trick that I utilize every year for Christmas cards to speed things up and keep things looking good! 🌟 Turn your envelopes sideways so that they are vertical/portrait, so that you can use the bottom corners as guides when applying your stamps. You can then eyeball it with the two sides and corner viewable, holding the stamp above to line it up, then lay it down to apply, no more twisting and turning or “does this look straight?” #christmascards #postagetip
